“Drinking the Kool-Aid-a metaphor commonly used in the United States that refers to a person or group holding an unquestioned belief, argument, or philosophy without critical examination.”
Though all these cults had completely different religions they had a couple of things in common; they had psychotic leaders with excessive sense of self-worth, followers that were susceptible to the charm and charisma of their leaders, and a need to belong. There are hundreds of cults in America today sucking people in by radiating happiness, which is just a mirage produced by the cult members after being instructed by their leaders. The cults we talked about affected the way the FBI handles groups of religious extremists, they affected the members of society watching as the cults dissolved precious human lives, and they affected, by way of death, the lives of the people who were sucked into the cult leaders lies. There are many things we can learn from cults: how to identify cults and how they present themselves to the public, how to identify if our loved ones are in cults, not to join a group that asks you to spend less time with your family, and not to join a group that forces you to give them all your possessions and money. It's imperial for everyone to remember not to drink the Kool-Aid.
